Stephen Walsh, D.V.M./Owner
Dr. Stephen Walsh graduated from The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. He practiced medicine in Massachusetts before taking over Bath Animal Hospital in November of 2008. Having enjoyed so much of what Maine has to offer over the years, Steve and his wife Karin were delighted to have the opportunity to move their family here permanently. Dr. Walsh's professional interests include soft tissue surgery and dentistry. Running a small local practice is most satisfying to Dr. Walsh because of the opportunity to establish that long-term bond with patients and to watch the bonds of owners and their pets over the lifetime of that relationship. Dr. Walsh has volunteered for Project Samana, a veterinary program to improve the health and welfare of the animals of the Dominican Republic. He also serves on the Sagadahoc County Board of Health.
Steve, Karin and their two children, Emma and Stevie, enjoy camping, hiking, boating and exploring all the beauty of the Maine coast. He keeps busy with his kids' activities and his high-energy dog Phinney and cat Herman.
Susan Kissel, D.V.M.
Dr. Susan Kissel is a graduate of Ross University. She worked at a busy small animal practice in Vermont before joining Bath Animal Hospital in 2010. Dr. Kissel's professional interests include internal medicine, anesthesia, and behavior. "Creating a bond with pet owners and helping an owner deal with a problem and watching it resolve with proper care" are the aspects of her work that Dr. Kissel finds most satisfying.
Outside the clinic, Dr. Kissel enjoys all outdoor activities, including hiking, biking, and kayaking. She loves to cook and to read. Much of her free time is spend exercising her young Australian Shepherd, Cy. She also has two cats, Fern and Seneca.

Bathing
Treat your pet to a luxurious bath. Our special, cleansing baths remove dirt, debris and that doggie pet odor - your pet will feel fresh and revitalized. If scratching is a problem, our medicated baths contain soothing agents that stop the itching. Services also include grooming, nail clipping and ear cleaning options.
Boarding
Pets are like our children - we feed, nurture and lavish attention on them. Our highly qualified kennel attendants do the same when you can't be there. We provide tender loving care to keep them happy.
Dental Care
Regular professional cleaning is important to maintaining your pet's teeth. We use a modern and safe ultrasonic cleaner to clean each tooth thoroughly - above and below the gum line. Dental technicians polish teeth to create a smooth, lustrous tooth surface more resistant to plaque buildup.
Emergency and Critical Care
In any emergency, seconds count. Our experienced staff is backed up by our mobile resuscitation unit, stocked and equipped to administer the ABCs of basic life support - airway, breathing, circulation/cardiac compressions. Emergency care is offered during regular business hours. In addition, we use the services of a local, fully staffed emergency center.
Hospice / Euthanasia Services
Saying goodbye to a long-time friend is painful. We work with clients to ensure their pet's comfort and dignity. Services include preparation of the body for home burial or cremation through a local, private cremation facility as decided by the client. We also offer a wide range of hand-made wooden boxes, as well as pottery and ceramic urns.
Immunization and Wellness Care
We strive to prevent illness whenever possible. The time and effort invested in Wellness programs has rewards for both pets and owners. Our Wellness programs are designed specifically for your pet and include: Comprehensive physical exam; internal parasite testing; heartworm and flea control; vaccination program; spay and neuter package; and specialized blood tests for all life stages.
Internal Medicine
We cover all areas of internal medicine, including: Cardiology; Opthalmology; Neurology; Dermatology; Gastroenterology; Oncology; Endocrinology; among others.
Microchipping
Microchips have helped reunite thousands of pets with their families. We offer the most widely used microchip products to increase the chances of a safe recovery.
Pain Management
Veterinary patients feel pain and discomfort under the same circumstances as people do. We know that recognizing and alleviating pain in animals is the essence of good patient care.
Fully Stocked Pharmacy
We stock a wide range of the best veterinary drugs in the animal healthcare field.
Radiology
Radiology - or X-rays - help our veterinarians evaluate muscular-skeletal, cardiovascular (cardiopulmonary), gastrointestinal, reproductive and urinary systems.
Surgery
We offer the most advanced surgical techniques and technology. All patients are carefully screened for safety, and anesthetics are specifically tailored to your pet. Surgical services and facilities include: board certified surgeon available for consultation; fully trained veterinary and technical staff, to ensure the safest, most efficient, state-of-the-art procedures for your pet; thermal warming blanket for greater comfort; advanced sterilization techniques; ECG; intensive after surgery care and full blood testing.
